Daresbury Laboratory

The Daresbury Laboratory lies south west of Warrington in northern Cheshire. It is near to the village of Daresbury, perhaps best known as the birthplace of the author Lewis Carroll. The Daresbury Laboratory was founded in 1962 and is now part of the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils.

The research programme includes biology, chemistry, materials science, physics and engineering.

Facilities include the world's first dedicated high energy synchrotron radiation source, parallel computers, the Research Unit for Surfaces, Transforms And Interfaces, databases and a Medium Energy Ion Scattering Facility.

Daresbury Research Services is the commercial arm of the Laboratory. It makes the Laboratory's facilities available to customers on a repayment basis and also enables technology transfer.
